King Jesus Drank The Cup Of God's Wrath In Your Place ~ Selected Scripture

Easter Sunday Sunday Morning March 24th, 2024 Pastor Richard Peffer Harvest Bible Church Meeting @ 140 E. Broadway Ave. in Girard, Ohio Website: https://www.harvestbibleohio.org/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HarvestBibleChurchGirardOhio/ The last five to ten minutes got cut off because of problems with the mic. I am pasting from my notes the last point in the sermon. 4th A Sweet Cup For Believers. Not only is God wrath described as a cup but God’s salvation is described as a cup. This is the cup that Jesus described in the Passover. This is the cup that is at the Lord’s Supper/Table/Communion. Matthew 26:27-29, “And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you; 28 for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. 29 "But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom." (NASB) Now Jesus offers all his disciples a new cup, the cup of the new covenant in his blood. The cup of wrath has been taken away from the Christian, never to be tasted again. But there is a new cup to replace it, and Jesus says, “Take this cup from my hand.” The new cup is the cup of salvation from sin. It is the cup of victory over death. It is the cup that represents Jesus’ own blood, the precious blood he spilled on Calvary when he drank the cup of God’s wrath. It is the cup that pours out forgiveness, the forgiveness Christ earned for us when he completely drained the bitter cup of divine judgment. There could be no cup like this, unless Christ had been willing to drink the wine of divine wrath. But he did drink it, and now that God’s wrath has been swallowed by Christ, you may hold out your hand to receive the sweet, sweet cup of God’s love. God’s Word assures us that there are no dregs in the cup of God’s love. You can drink and drink and drink. You can drink and it will be sweet all the way down. It will be sweet all the way down because it has been made sweet with Christ’s own blood. If you know that you are a sinner, then know also that there is no need for you to drink the cup of God’s wrath. If your hand trembles, if your lips quiver at the thought, then give the cup to Christ in faith. Pass the bitter cup to Christ, for he has drunk down the wrath of God. Let Jesus drink the cup of God’s wrath in your place… as your Sinless Substitute.
